Eyelid Surgery Procedure

There are several stages of eyelid surgery, including pre-treatment and post-treatment. The treatment steps vary according to the technique to be used.

The aims of the treatment include rejuvenation, restoring lost vision and correcting the tired appearance around the eyes.

The process begins with an examination of the eye area to determine which technique will be used on the eyelids. Then the procedure begins and the eyelids are corrected as determined. You can look young again, regain your sight and stop looking tired.

Consultation & Preoperation

The process begins with a discussion of the patient’s expectations, concerns and general health. The patient’s suitability for surgery is determined. If suitable, the patient’s eyelids are examined and the treatment method is decided.

A local or general anesthetic is used to prevent the patient from feeling pain. Sedation may also be used in some cases. Incisions are made on the face according to the eyelid technique to be performed.

The amount of fat and skin to be removed varies according to the upper or lower eyelid. In the upper eyelid, excess skin and fat are removed or repositioned to reduce puffiness or improve vision.

On the upper eyelid, fat and excess skin are removed to reduce puffiness around the eye bags and give you a less tired look. After the surgery is finished, the incisions are closed and the healing process begins.

The recovery time will vary, but patients will usually experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes at first. Most people will be able to resume their normal activities within 7 to 10 days. However, it is important that you follow the advice of your surgeon and healthcare team and take the necessary precautions.

Why are eyelid surgeries cheaper in Turkey?

Eyelid surgeries are more affordable in Turkey for several reasons:

  • Competition Among Providers. The fact that health tourism in Turkey is developed and there are more clinics and hospitals increases competition and makes it easier for people to access health services. Thus, prices fall compared to other countries.
  • Favorable Exchange Rates. The Turkish lira rate is lower than that of the currencies of developed countries. Therefore, health services in Turkey are cheaper for people from countries with stronger currencies.
  • Government Support. Thanks to government incentives, many clinics and hospitals offer more health services at more affordable prices. The fact that Turkey is a tourism country contributes to the development of health tourism.
  • Flexible Payment Options: All-inclusive packages and flexible installment options make getting eyelid surgery in Turkey more accessible.
  • Efficient Healthcare System. Turkey’s efficient healthcare system contributes to streamlined processes and reduced administrative costs, leading to overall lower procedure costs.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How painful is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is one of the aesthetic surgeries that are usually painless and patients feel minimal pain. During the surgery, anaesthesia is performed and the patient is put to sleep, so no pain is felt.

After the end of the procedure, the patient may experience minor swelling and bruising. Painkillers are given by our healthcare staff against possible pain in the first few days. Long-term pain is very rare.

What is the recovery time for eyelid surgery?

The healing process of the eyelid operation varies according to the size of the operation. If you have had lower eyelid surgery, you can return to work within 14 days. For both lower and upper eyelid surgery, the healing process is prolonged for a few more weeks.

How you take care of yourself during the healing process, using the medications and eye drops given to you by your surgeon as instructed, affects whether the process is shorter or longer.

By four to six weeks after surgery, most of the healing process is complete and patients can usually resume all normal activities. The healing process lasts between 3-4 months and eventually the patient is completely recovered.

How long does an eyelid lift last?

Eyelid surgery is usually long-lasting. However, it is not permanent due to the natural aging process.

Upper eyelid surgery usually lasts between 5 and 10 years, while lower eyelid surgery is permanent for 10 to 15 years. Blepharoplasty, which rejuvenates the eye area, cannot stop aging. The permanence period of the surgery varies depending on how the person takes care of himself/herself, whether he/she smokes or not, whether he/she leads a healthy life or not.

What is the best age for eyelid lift?

There is no ideal age for eyelid surgery. Since the purpose of this surgery is to look younger and to increase the vision of the person, mostly older people prefer it.

Since aging will negatively affect the permanence of eyelid surgery, it is more logical to perform this surgery at a late age.

How long does eyelid surgery take to fully heal?

It is necessary to wait 3 to 6 months for the eyelid surgery to fully heal and reach the expected appearance. While most of the healing occurs in the first 6 weeks, it may take up to 3 months to complete the healing process. After the first 2 weeks, patients will already see improvements in the eyelid.
